This man had several good points to make about Bush's ridiculous proposed Homeland Security Agency. For one thing, Bush wants no congressional oversight over its spending. He also didn't want any changes to the Freedom of Information Act (another Bush scam) that it worked well as it is, no reason to change anything here. He didn't like that the department would be able to sell real estate with no oversight. Also, personnel would lose many benefits, including cuts in salary. The most alarming thing he said is that the last time a big shakeup like this was proposed was during the the Second World War. BECAUSE we were at war and that is no time to reorganize a department of such importance, it wasn't done until after the war. He mentioned innumerable of problems that would render the department inoperable for a long time: the time it would take to set up new offices, move into them, get the phones set up, the list was a long one. The more I learn about all the changes the Bush administration wants to make and the ruthlessness with which they are going about it, the more I believe they are desperately trying to hide something from the public. Paying off 9/11 victims and families with hush money and telling them they'd better accept it because, if they sued the airlines, it'd be a long time before they saw any money, if at all--think about that for a moment. The first lawsuit against United Airlines is in court. Ashcroft has made his department a part of the suit in an effort to "oversee" it and tried to get the judge let them review evidence before it was admitted into court, she refused. And many other odd things. They must be hiding something, don't you think?
